Brian's big year at Jabout
When I first walked through the doors at Jabout just before my 20th birthday, I was unfit, unhealthy and most of all, unhappy with myself, but determined to turn my life around (and just a little bit intimidated at what i was seeing, thinking to myself "what am i getting into").

I was always pretty big through high school, tipping the scales in year 7 a mild 106kgs, I started playing football to keep fit but after a few injuries I was forced to give it up. I had a few weight fluctuations but still remained pretty heavy. When I left high school (about 110kgs) Ii worked some casual jobs and didnt do much until I started an apprenticeship in 2008, where I fell into a routine of eating rubbish and working too much and not taking care of myself. I put on over 10kgs in my first year, putting myself about 119kgs. I was uncomfortable with my appearance and as a result of comments people made about me I lost alot of confidence, as alot of overweight people do. I had enough of feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and decided it was time to do something about it.

My best friend had been learning Muay Thai with Jason at Jabout for a little while and kept telling me to come down and try it, and I kept avoiding it, but finally i got the guts to go down to the gym. I started doing the beginner classes once a week, then twice a week, and a few times a week and before I knew it I was hooked. I started going 4 days every week, and before long I did one or two of the advanced classes a week, and soon i was going everyday doing both the advanced and the beginner class.

The first thing I thought about going to a fighting gym, was that everyone would be big muscley tuff guys and everyone would hate me for being the new guy... but how wrong I was! Jabout is like one big extended family, pretty much everyone who has been to a class will tell you how friendly and helpful everyone is.

With the combination of Jason's awesome training and the support of everyone in the gym, combined with good nutrition and a healthy(er) diet, and a lot of hard work and determination I have set and smashed so many personal goals. I am now weighing about 80kgs - meaning i have lost about 40 kgs in just over a year ( i didnt weigh myself for a while when i started, so I can't say exactly). I have achieved what I set out to do and so much more, and will continue to set and break goals, im sure of it. I am now the healthiest, fittest, strongest and happiest I have been in my life and I owe it all to Jason and the Jabout team.

    Kelly achieves her goals...

I met Jason in October 2004 at a mutual friends wedding. I was at the time preparing for my own wedding which was in December in Thailand. I had been losing weight for a couple of months when Jason told me he would be able to help me lose some more. I talked it up-saying I would call him to organise some sessions. The funny thing is, I actually did!!

That moment in time probably changed my life forever. We worked hard as I only had two months til I was married and obviously I wanted to look beautiful in my dress. I started with Jason weighing about 68kg and by the time I got married I was 58kg and 3 months pregnant… Everyone was amazed and so was I. From then on I gave training up as I was falling to the whole pregnant thing - eat, sleep & eat. By the time I had my 1st child I weighed 90kg. I got down to about 74kg afterwards and I started training with Jason again. Then I fell pregnant again, my 1st child was 6 months old at the time so I was determined not to go past 90kg. by the time I had my 2nd child I had weighed 90kg again.

About 3 months later I began training with Jason and I was probably about 78kg but didn’t tell him what I weighed until I got to about 74kg. After being 58kg I wanted to get to about 60kg, I thought that was realistic. It took about 9 months to get there but I feel fantastic and do not want to give him up!

I am over the moon at where I’m at. All along I would complain that I’m not losing enough weight and Jason would say be patient but all you want is the results. It seems unbelievable that I am finally here and currently weighing 59kg. I’m so glad that I met Jason as he kept me going even when I had enough…..and trust me nothing comes easy

Lady Luck, Amanda Flynn Gower talks about her JABOUT training...

I first heard about Jason Lapin from JABOUT two and a half years ago when a few of my friends started personal training sessions with him and their results were visible from early on.
I was always an active person but at that time in my life I needed some motivation. My wedding was creeping up and like all brides I wanted to look amazing on the day. I was also making regular appearances as 'Lady Luck' on Channel 9's "The Footy Show" and the camera does add a few pounds so to feel confident at all times I wanted to get into shape and feel great. That's when I decided to seek the help of the 'super trainer' (thats what my friends and i like to call him).

My first meeting with Jason left me totally impressed. He sat me down and asked me what my goals were and in what time frame... he also explained to me that he would be 100% devoted to me if i was 100% devoted to myself and my goals. This proved to me that it was never about the money to Jason but about getting results and being on the right path to reach my goals. I started training 3 days a week and although it was hard i never wanted to let Jason down because I knew he would never let me down. He would always push me, but in such a way that i didnt hate it... I actually enjoyed the challenge.

On my wedding day I felt fantastic! I didnt actually realise at the time how great my body looked until I saw photos of my toned back and arms (thanks to lots of boxing and chinese push ups) and I felt so much better mentally as well. After my wedding I was totally addicted to training with Jason so we set new goals and kept training.

One thing I love about Jason is, you always are setting new goals with him that apply to your training but also your life which I find refreshing. In my line of work you are constantly judged on how you look and thanks to Jason I can always feel confident from the inside out. Jason is so professional, knowledgable, kind, a great listener, inspiring, but above all a great friend and the best personal trainer I will ever have.
