Brian's big year at Jabout
When I first walked through the doors at Jabout just before my 20th birthday, I was unfit, unhealthy and most of all, unhappy with myself, but determined to turn my life around (and just a little bit intimidated at what i was seeing, thinking to myself "what am i getting into").

I was always pretty big through high school, tipping the scales in year 7 a mild 106kgs, I started playing football to keep fit but after a few injuries I was forced to give it up. I had a few weight fluctuations but still remained pretty heavy. When I left high school (about 110kgs) Ii worked some casual jobs and didnt do much until I started an apprenticeship in 2008, where I fell into a routine of eating rubbish and working too much and not taking care of myself. I put on over 10kgs in my first year, putting myself about 119kgs. I was uncomfortable with my appearance and as a result of comments people made about me I lost alot of confidence, as alot of overweight people do. I had enough of feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and decided it was time to do something about it.
My best friend had been learning Muay Thai with Jason at Jabout for a little while and kept telling me to come down and try it, and I kept avoiding it, but finally i got the guts to go down to the gym. I started doing the beginner classes once a week, then twice a week, and a few times a week and before I knew it I was hooked. I started going 4 days every week, and before long I did one or two of the advanced classes a week, and soon i was going everyday doing both the advanced and the beginner class.

The first thing I thought about going to a fighting gym, was that everyone would be big muscley tuff guys and everyone would hate me for being the new guy... but how wrong I was! Jabout is like one big extended family, pretty much everyone who has been to a class will tell you how friendly and helpful everyone is.
With the combination of Jason's awesome training and the support of everyone in the gym, combined with good nutrition and a healthy(er) diet, and a lot of hard work and determination I have set and smashed so many personal goals. I am now weighing about 80kgs - meaning i have lost about 40 kgs in just over a year ( i didnt weigh myself for a while when i started, so I can't say exactly). I have achieved what I set out to do and so much more, and will continue to set and break goals, im sure of it. I am now the healthiest, fittest, strongest and happiest I have been in my life and I owe it all to Jason and the Jabout team.
